Any trunk lines include: line structures, main and intermediate transfer and filling pumping stations and tank farms.

Basic trunk line elements - welded up pipes are earthed, as a rule, at 0.8 m down to upper forming pipe, unless greater or less depth required by special conditions.

Construction of trunk lines include:

1.     Preparatory and ground works.
2.     Electric arc welding of trunk and flow lines
3.     Pipeline protection against corrosion using wrapping and
4.     Pipelines laying.
5.     Construction of pipe reducers through natural and man-made obstacles
6.     Pipeline ballasting and securing
7.     Construction of cable communication lines of trunk lines
8.     Void pigging and strength and leakage test
9.     Quality control and acceptance of works
10.   Environmental measures
11.   Start-up works
12.   Commissioning of completed pipelines.

Trunk line terminal is either raw material farm of processing plant or terminal station from where raw materials are transported to processing plants or exported abroad.

Storage function in trunk line system is performed by tank farm. In terms of capacity and location, tanks are classified as follows:

  • class I - specially dangerous tanks: with capacity of 10,000 m3 and over, and tanks with capacity of 5,000 m3 and over, located directly along the river banks, shores of big water bodies and within the limits of urban development;
  • class II - heightened danger tanks: with capacity of 5,000 to 10,000 m3;
  • class III - dangerous tanks: with capacity of 100 to 5,000 m3;

Danger level is considered during designing by special materials requirements and scope of control.

All construction and installation works on tanks construction shall be performed in strict technological order:

1.     Earth works on excavation of trenches for tank
2.     Earth works on excavation of trenches for external walls
3.     Foundation for tank
4.     Foundation for external walls
5.     Installation of bottom
6.     Installation of roof
7.     Installation of wall
8.     Installation of wind girder
9.     Installation of ring ladder
10.   Installation of trolley ladder
11.   Installation of guiding rails
12.   Installation of interconnecting walkways
13.   Installation of equipment
14.  Quality control maintained by systematic verification of following the production process, exterior check, size control and proofness and tightness test of all welds
15.  Testing and acceptance of tanks.Are carried out for the purpose of strength, stability and pressure integrity testing of structures, as required by custom designed "Tank hydrotesting procedures"
16.  Corrosion-resistant coating
17.  Site improvement
18.  Preparation to commissioning.
